How to Mend A Broken Heart
Dr Linus Pauling's Unified Theory of Cardiovascular Disease ...
Over ten years ago, the two-time Nobel prize Laureate, Dr Linus Pauling and his associate Dr Matthias Rath,
advocated and published a definitive thesis on the root cause, treatment, and actual cure for all forms of
cardiovascular disease (CVD), including congestive heart failure, heart disease, and stroke. Today, cardiovascular
related health problems together comprise fully one half of all causes of death in the US. Pauling and Rath's brilliant
analysis of CVD is absolutely compelling and amply supported by numerous epidemiological and clinical studies. His
unified theory of CVD constitutes one of the greatest breakthroughs in modern science, and yet has been almost
completely ignored by the mainstream medical establishment, and received almost no press.
Paulings Unparalleled Credentials:
Most doctors and other medical practitioners have not even heard the truth about CVD that Dr Pauling so
convincingly revealed. This might be understandable if Pauling was just some anonymous unheard-of crackpot,
lacking any serious credentials or reputation. But to the contrary, Pauling was one of the all-time greats of science.
He was listed by the British Journal of Science in their list of the top 20 greatest scientists of all time. Pauling was the
father of modern chemistry, unifying the fields of quantum mechanics and chemistry to reveal our modern
understanding of chemical bonding and the synthesis of molecular compounds. His early work contributed greatly to
the field genetics and our understanding of the double helix structure of DNA. Pauling was thirty years ahead of his
time when he ushered in the modern era of alternative medicine with his concept of orthomolecular medicine and
mega vitamin therapy. Orthomolecular medicine describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by
providing the body with optimal amounts of substances, which are natural to the body. Linus Pauling first introduced
the term, "orthomolecular" in a paper he wrote in the journal Science in 1968. This paper first described the
theoretical foundations for what was later to become a specialty within complementary medicine In the sixties,
Pauling waged almost single handedly a successful crusade against atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons;
warning of the future fallout in the form of genetic diseases, cancers and numerous other serious health problems.
His relentless work in this area yielded nuclear test banning treaties among the Soviets, US and other major powers,
resulting in a cleaner, safer environment for us all.
Pauling was a scientist with uncommon vision and foresight matched by few in history. He had an unrivaled
determination to cut through established beliefs and fallacies to get to the truth of any matter of his focus. When he
reviewed peer scientific studies he always drew his own conclusions and tested the evidence, not to be swayed or
fooled by preconceived conclusions. Only now, thirty years after he introduced the concepts of orthomolecular
medicine, has the mainstream medical community even begun to stir a little and recognize the huge value of
essential vitamins and nutrients in high doses for the prevention of numerous medical conditions. Pauling bucked
mainstream opinion and wisdom in many areas of science, chemistry, medicine, and politics. And more often than
not he proved to be well ahead of his time. When Pauling first advocated mega-doses of Vitamin C back in the
seventies as a cure for the common cold, he was poo-pooed and mocked by the mainstream medical community,
and yet today millions of people worldwide have discovered the benefits of Paulings advice. Still a healthy and
vigorous man in his late 80s and early 90s, during his last years, Dr Linus Pauling with his fellow collaborator, Dr
Rath, published "A Unified Theory of Human Cardiovascular Disease Leading the Way to the Abolition of This
Disease as a Cause for Human Mortality". This monumental work has largely gone unnoticed because of the
entrenched opinions and dogma of the mainstream medical community and their overseers, the multi-billion dollar
international pharmaceutical industry. The fact that you have probably not heard about this discovery in the
mainstream media is disturbing and speaks volumes on the power of big money and the effectiveness of the
pharmaceutical industry's disinformation campaigns.
The Only Patent for the Cure of Cardiovascular Disease:
Pauline and Raths theory of CVD is so scientifically compelling and demonstrable that in 1994 they were granted the
only US patent for the cure of cardiovascular disease. This was no small feat since the US Office of Patents will only
grant a patent for an invention that has been demonstrated to work. The non-prescription therapy advocated by
Pauling and Rath has become know as the Pauline Therapy. The efficacy of the Pauline Therapy has been amply
proven in thousands of cardiovascular patients who have been so fortunate to discover the remarkable treatment.
The Pauline and Rath heart protocols in lower dosage levels will prevent cardiovascular disease and in higher
dosages will actually reverse arterial plaque build up and reverse heart disease! Heart patients moving to the
Pauling Therapy commonly avoid open-heart surgery and angioplasty. This is accomplished by dealing directly with
the root causes of CVD and arterial plaque buildup. Almost without exception patients experience rapid recovery.
This study adds a credible piece to the puzzle:
Richard T. Lee, M.D., senior author of a study published by the American Heart Association says: "We have been
taught for decades that when your heart cells are dead, they are dead and there is nothing we can do about it.
We are excited about anything suggesting that we can grow more heart cells."
Lee and his colleagues tested 880 bioactive substances – including drugs and vitamins – approved by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to see if they stimulated the mouse stem cells to become heart muscle cells.
The cells were genetically altered to give off a fluorescent bright green color when viewed under a microscope if they
had become heart muscle cells.
"We only got 1 out of the 880 to light up, and that was from ascorbic acid, the chemical commonly known as vitamin
C," says Lee, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in
Boston, and a lecturer in biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.
Heart Disease, Vitamin C, L-Lysine & L-Proline...
By Dr. Matthias Rath
Matthias Rath is a leading expert in cardiovascular disease and nutrition. The former director of cardiovascular
research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine, he has held research and clinical positions at the
University of Ham-burg and the German Heart Center in Berlin. After participating in the discovery of lipo-protein(a)
and its connections to Vitamin C, Dr. Rath came to the U.S. to pursue the goal of eliminating heart attacks and
strokes. He currently serves on the editorial boards of three medical journals.
IMPORTANT DISCOVERIES IGNORED FOR YEARS:
For years, practitioners and researchers have presented evidence pointing to the importance of vitamin C to human
health. Nearly 50 years ago, for example, the Canadian cardiologist J. C. Patterson, M.D., reported that more than
80% of his heart disease patients had low vitamin C levels in their blood.
In 1954, G. C. Wills, M.D., showed that vitamin C supplementation could reduce atherosclerotic deposits in the
arteries of patients. His study received scant attention. Since 1970, the major advocate for increasing our vitamin C
intake has been Linus Pauling, Ph.D., a two-time Nobel Laureate. Due at least in part to his influence, vitamin C
consumption in the U.S. rose by 300% during the 1970's. During this same period, mortality from heart disease
plummeted more than 30%.
In May 1992, University of California-Los Angeles researchers reported on a study of 11,000 Americans. They found
that increasing intake of vitamin C nearly halves the death rate from heart disease and lengthens life expectancy up
to six years.
VITAMIN C- HEART DISEASE FIGHTER:
My colleagues and I have found that heart disease is an early form of scurvy. Scurvy, known as the sailor's disease
of earlier centuries, is caused by a complete lack of vitamin C in the diet. In this condition, only very little collagen is
produced in the body, thus weakening blood vessels to the point that they break apart. Collagen is the
reinforcement of fiber for blood vessel walls and other parts of the human body. Without the reinforcement of
collagen, blood leaks through the vessel like water leaks through a brittle garden hose. Massive blood loss through
vitamin C-depleted blood vessels killed thousands of sailors until limes became part of their diets.
Adequate vitamin C, on the other hand, allows your body to produce many collagen molecules. These reinforce and
guarantee strong and elastic blood vessels that do not allow atherosclerotic deposits to develop.
Heart disease lies between this optimum condition and scurvy. The American diet contains enough vitamin C to
prevent full-blown scurvy, but in many cases, not enough to guarantee stable blood vessel walls. Over the years,
this inadequacy permits fat globules and other blood-born risk factors to enter the blood vessel walls. Millions of
these particles collect and become atherosclerotic deposits, which, in the arteries of the heart lead to heart attack.
Deposits in the arteries of the brain lead to stroke.
A RISK TEN TIMES GREATER THAN CHOLESTEROL:
Recently, a reevaluation was done of the Framingham Heart Study, one of the largest risk factor studies ever
conducted. The results fly in the face of conventional wisdom. The reevaluation revealed a threat ten times greater
than low-density lipo-protein (LDL) cholesterol. This risk factor is called lipo-protein(a).
Lipo-protein(a) is a low-density lipo-protein (LDL) fat globule with apo(a) wrapped around it like adhesive tape. Each
fat globule contains thousands of cholesterol molecules. It is the apo(a) which makes these fat globules stick inside
the wall of weakened blood vessels.
Lipo-protein(a) is found in humans and other species whose bodies cannot internally manufacture vitamin C. In
contrast, animals which produce their own vitamin C within their livers do not need lipo-protein(a). Lipo-protein(a) is
nature's emergency repair particle produced to fix blood vessels weakened by a shortage of vitamin C. It is meant to
be a short-term solution. When vitamin C deficiency continues over many years, this repair process is prolonged
abnormally. In other words, heart disease is a repair process for weakened blood vessels that continues too long
and eventually overshoots, causing the development of atherosclerotic deposits.
Neither diet nor any of the presently available cholesterol-lowering prescription drugs is known to affect this newly
identified risk factor. In contrast, supplements of vitamin C and vitamin B3 (niacin), as well as the natural amino acids
proline and lysine, can help reduce these deposits and reverse existing heart disease in a non-surgical way.
Vitamin C stabilizes the blood vessel wall and makes the deposit of lipo-protein(a) unnecessary. Vitamin C and
niacin can also lower lipo-protein(a) levels in blood. The natural amino acids L-proline and L-lysine are "anti-
adhesives" which prevent gluing of the adhesive lipo-protein(a) particles to the blood vessel wall. Higher daily
dosages of these vitamins may be needed in some patients to achieve this goal.
NUTRIENTS AND YOUR HEART CELLS:
The heart is the central organ of the cardiovascular system. Its main function is the pumping of blood throughout
the body 70 times per minute, more than 100,000 times a day. Thus, the heart is the busiest organ of the human
body and the organ undergoing the greatest mechanical stress. The heart and the blood vessels are composed of
millions of cells whose proper function determines cardiovascular health.
Vitamin C, the B vitamins, camitine, co-enzyme QIO, and certain minerals and trace elements are the fuel for the
body's cells. They are key to optimal cardiovascular health. If the heart cells become vitamin deficient, they may fail
to perform properly and different forms of heart disease develop.
Vitamin deficiencies in the electrical cells of the heart lead to irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmia. Vitamin
deficiencies in the heart muscle cells lead to impaired blood pumping, as well as shortness of breath and edema.
UNCLOGGING BLOCKED ARTERIES:
A dream of mankind is the non-surgical reversal of existing deposits in our arteries. Vitamin C, proline and lysine
can not only help to prevent the buildup of atherosclerotic deposits, but also help to decrease existing deposits and
thereby reverse heart disease. L-proline and L-lysine, which are man made forms of the naturally occurring amino
acids made within the body, can help reverse atherosclerotic deposits by releasing lipo-protein(a) and other fat
globules from inside the vessel wall, thereby decreasing the size of these deposits.
Vitamin C can also help to remove fat particles from the deposits in the blood vessel wall by increasing the levels of
HDL (so-called good cholesterol), which picks up and transports away fat particles that cling to blood vessel walls.
Clinical studies now underway promise further information about this effect.
In addition, Oral Chelation is a natural therapy to help prevent and reverse heart disease, atherosclerosis and
circulatory ailments using EDTA in therapeutic dosages. It is a 100% safe non-surgical and painless treatment
designed to improve the circulation through the dissolution of arterial plaque and the removal of heavy metals. Oral
chelation treats the entire circulatory system (veins, arteries, arterioles and capillaries). Any person with, or wishing
to prevent, health problems due to poor circulation may benefit from its use. Oral Chelation delivered orally involves
ingesting nutritional food supplements which contain chelating agents (EDTA & numerous natural chelators)
including; vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and herbs.
Oral Chelation can be used by anyone with a family history of heart disease, longstanding poor dietary practices,
or a history of exposure to heavy metals or toxic chemicals. More generally, Oral Chelation is useful to anyone who
wants to prevent cardiovascular disease and clear their body of the metals and toxins that we all accumulate and
which can cause a variety of health problems. As such, oral chelation can serve as a convenient, non-invasive,
long-term health maintenance, preventative and reversal program. The gradual dosage delivery significantly
reduces the risk of side effects; oral chelation is safe for children and adults.
Understand what causes heart disease
Pauling recommended 3 to 18 grams a day of Ascorbic Acid, up to bowel tolerance level. In addition Lysine at 3 to 6
grams and Proline has been added recently at 500 mgs to 2 grams - daily, all divided between 3 meals. These
amounts would be reversal according to him, and 1/2 to 1/4 these amounts would be preventative in nature.
